TikTok was eating into Google's core Search business, according to a Google executive, especially among younger users. According to a new Pew Research Center study, TikTok is now being used for more than just that.
According to the findings of a report on Americans' use of social media for news consumption, 33% of TikTok users now say they get their news on the social video app on a regular basis, up from 22% in 2020. Meanwhile, nearly every other social media site saw declines in that same metric, including Facebook, where only 44% of its users report getting their news there on a regular basis, down from 54% just two years ago. This data suggests that TikTok has evolved from a platform for lip syncs, dances, and comedy to one that many of its users use to learn about what's going on in their world.
