Amazon expands its food delivery business in India amid FDI violations controversy

Amazon India had started conducting its pilot food delivery service in Bengaluru last year. Now 10 months later, Amazon Food is said to have brought onboard nearly 2,500 restaurants and cloud kitchens to serve in over 62 postal codes in the city, including key localities like Whitefield, HSR, Sarjapur, Koramangala, Indranagar, MG Road, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Frazer Town, Malleshwaram and Rajaji Nagar.

The development comes despite massive agitations and intense government scrutiny into Amazon India’s ecommerce business for alleged violations of India’s foreign direct investment (FDI) rules, evading the goods and services tax (GST) and other business malpractices that have supposedly created an uneven playing field for small retailers.
