Amazon, Flipkart, and Reliance Retail are expected to join India's ambitious Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) initiative, which is still in its early stages.
The network is running a pilot programme to onboard kiranas and small and medium businesses in five cities: Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Shillong, and Coimbatore. ONDC is an initiative that promotes open networks for all aspects of goods and services exchange over digital or electronic networks. ONDC is based on an open-sourced methodology that employs open specifications and open network protocols that are platform agnostic. It is marketed as a way to break the monopoly of large ecommerce companies in India. As a result, if these players join and integrate with the open network, it will have a positive impact.
