Amazon to stop accepting UK-issued Visa credit cards over high fees

Amazon said it will no longer accept payments made with UK-issued Visa credit cards due to Visa's high fees, in a spat that highlights ongoing tensions between retailers and payment processors over fees.

Customers can still use Visa debit cards, Mastercard, American Express, and Eurocard to make purchases on Amazon. Card payments are subject to a variety of fees, including interchange fees and other transaction charges, and it is understood that Amazon's decision was not prompted by an increase in any of the fees in particular. Interchange fees are typically a percentage of the transaction cost and are higher for credit card transactions and purchases made remotely, such as online sales, though there are limits on payments made within the UK.
