Apple filed a lawsuit against Israeli cyber firm NSO Group and its parent company OSY Technologies for allegedly spying on and targeting Apple users in the United States with its Pegasus spyware.
The iPhone maker also stated that it is attempting to prohibit NSO Group from using any Apple software, services, or devices in order to prevent further abuse. Apple is the latest in a long line of companies and governments to go after NSO, which has stated that it only sells its products to law enforcement and intelligence agencies and takes precautions to prevent abuse.
Microsoft Corp, Meta Platforms Inc, Alphabet Inc, and Cisco Systems Inc have also taken legal action or criticised NSO. NSO is allegedly involved in circumventing security for these companies' products and selling that circumvention to foreign governments in the form of hacking tools. Apple stated that the NSO group created over 100 bogus Apple ID user credentials in order to carry out its attacks.
