Apple postponed the release of digital ID cards to 2022

Apple delayed the release of a feature that allows to store your ID in the company’s Wallet app. In an update to the official iOS 15 website, Apple says that functionality will now arrive sometime in early 2022. The company previously planned to launch in late 2021.

The feature was first announced by Apple at WWDC 2021. According to Apple, the tool will allow you to add your driver's licence or state ID card to Apple Wallet  just like a credit or debit card. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at some US airports will be among the first to support the feature. You'll be able to present your ID to the TSA using your iPhone or Apple Watch at those locations. You will do so by tapping your device on an identity reader, and you will not be required to hand over your iPhone or Apple Watch to a TSA agent.
