Autonomous vehicle company Cruise raised $2 bn from Microsoft

Cruise raised $2 bn in a new equity round that now values the company at $30 bn. The investment was led by Microsoft, GM, Honda and other institutional investors as the company comes closer to commercialize its technology.

Under the long-term strategic partnership, Cruise will use Azure, Microsoft’s cloud and edge computing platform, for its yet-to-be launched autonomous vehicle ride-hailing service.

The partnership benefits GM also as Microsoft will be GM’s preferred public cloud provider to help the automaker accelerate several of it digitization initiatives as well as streamline operations across digital supply chains.
