BigBasket acquired the business enterprise unit of deeptech startup Agrima Infotech. The self-checkout counters at the Tata Group-owned retailer will now be outfitted with Agrima's consumer vision technology platform Psyight.
Psyight aids in the recognition of all Indian fruits and vegetables from an image without the use of a barcode. The collaboration aims to reimagine offline shopping in India. BigBasket CEO Hari Mohan was quoted as saying, "BigBasket will use this expertise on AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) to enrich and enhance a whole lot of technological innovation in the company." BigBasket intends to open approximately 200 physical stores across India by the fiscal year 2023. In the future, the grocer plans to expand its store network to 800 locations by 2026.
