CAIT demands ecommerce policy and a sector-regulating body

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has reportedly requested that the Centre immediately launch an ecommerce policy and establish a regulatory body for the sector.

According to the Economic Times, CAIT also urged the government to simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and implement a retail trade policy. CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal stated that the country's ecommerce sector should be governed by a body similar to SEBI and the RBI. The demands follow a report by the parliamentary standing committee, which requested that ecommerce players refrain from anti-steering, deep discounting, and other anti-competitive practises.
