CCI catches Google unfairly blocking competitor payments in its Play Store

After conducting an initial extensive investigation, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) concluded that Google discriminated against app developers in its Play Store billing policy, which, if proven, could result in future penalties against Google. Previously, it had called Google's billing system for app developers "unfair and discriminatory."

According to the report, the findings come after a months-long investigation prompted by developer protests that the US internet giant charges an unfairly high fee in exchange for using Android app stores and its proprietary payments service. Google announced in 2020 that any app offering digital goods and services would be required to use the Play Store's billing system.
