The Delhi High Court has directed the Telecom and Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to speed up the consultation process with stakeholders for the regulation of over-the-top (OTT) communication services.
According to an ET report, the court has also asked the industry watchdog to recommend a suitable regulatory mechanism for OTTs such as WhatsApp and Telegram. Given the widespread prevalence and use of internet telephony, TRAI would conduct this stakeholders' consultation as soon as possible: Singh, Justice. World Phone Internet Services, an Internet telephony service provider, has filed a petition for OTT regulation.
