Edtech startup Masai School raised $5 mn funding led by Omidyar

Edtech startup Masai School has raised $5 mn in a Series A equity funding round led by Omidyar Network India. Existing investors Unitus Ventures, India Quotient and AngelList India also took part in the funding round.

The company teaches skill-based courses to students on an income-sharing model. When students get placed after the course, they pay a portion of their salary to the company for the next three years, up to a certain threshold. If they don't land a job within a year, the course is free.

Presently, the school offers coding courses on full-stack web development and Android development. Prateek Shukla, CEO and co-founder of Masai School said that they plan to expand into courses in a broader range of careers such as data analytics, product management and UX design. Shukla said that the company, which presently has 450 students enrolled with it, aims to have 2000 students graduate at the end of FY2020-21.
