Facebook blames Indian user growth decline on prepaid tariff hike

Facebook has blamed its poor fourth-quarter results on COVID-19 and expensive data packs in India.

In its quarterly report, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) stated that "Facebook user growth was impacted by a few headwinds in quarter 4". In India, user growth was also stifled by an increase in data package pricing. In addition to these factors, we believe that competitive services are having a negative impact on growth, especially among younger audiences."

Facebook's Daily Active Users fell to 1.929 million in the fourth quarter of 2021, down from 1.93 million in the third quarter. Meta is still highly profitable, with total revenue of $33.7 billion in the fourth quarter, a 20% increase. In the fourth quarter, Facebook reported its first-ever quarterly decline in daily active users.
