Meta formerly known as Facebook aims to integrate its social media world into the metaverse, but the tech behemoth is also said to have real-world ambitions, with rumours of physical retail stores, according to the New York Times.
As the social media giant prepares to fully launch its metaverse, Meta is reportedly planning physical stores to showcase virtual reality headsets and other merchandise from the company's Reality Labs division. Virtual reality headsets and augmented reality glasses will be entry points into the metaverse, which Facebook envisions as the next social network in which users interact in virtual worlds. The physical stores would provide people with hands-on experience with the metaverse's realities. According to internal documents, the stores are intended to help people see a more connected world.
