India to implement facial recognition systems in airports from December 1, 2022

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry reportedly plans to begin the full-fledged rollout of its facial recognition-based digital processing of flyers on December 1, 2022.

Digi Yatra is a single-token biometric-based flyer processing platform that is currently in beta testing at the airports of Delhi and Bengaluru. According to sources, the Digi Yatra project will be implemented in stages. On December 1, the service will be launched in the first phase at Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi airports. Earlier this month, NITI Aayog requested key safeguards, including the establishment of data protection laws
