Niti Aayog suggests operating standards for online fantasy sports platforms
Indian government’s thinktank Niti Aayog has released a draft paper to discuss a uniform national-level regulation of online fantasy sports platforms in India.
Niti Aayog recommends:
1. Gaming companies to follow all laws & regulations of India.
2. Obligation to offer only skill-predominant fantasy sports formats, which are either judicially recognised or approved by an independent evaluation committee of a govt recognised self-regulatory industry body.
3. Games will have to pertain to at least one entire real-life event.
4. Money can be offered only to persons above 18 years of age & avoid offering any gambling or betting services, etc.
These guiding rules could also be handled as a uniform “regulatory sandbox” and perhaps recalibrated based mostly on ongoing improvements and developments within the sector.
