An inter-ministerial group tasked with developing a framework to regulate online gaming is likely to introduce rules governing the amount of money individual players spend in a game. According to ET, the task force established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) could also set a daily limit on the amount of money spent by players on in-game purchases. The central idea is to ensure "consumer and gamer protection."
They expect the draftt regulations to be finalised within the next month and then released for public comment. Members of the Niti Aayog, as well as secretaries from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Revenue, Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Information and Broadcasting, and the Meity secretary, comprise the seven-member inter-ministerial task force, which was formed in May.
