Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries plans to embed its ecommerce app JioMart into WhatsApp within 6 months as the Indian conglomerate looks to ramp up its retail and grocery business in the country. This will allow of millions of users to order products from Reliance without having to leave the app.
JioMart was launched in May 2020 with plans to be operational across 200 cities in India. The e-commerce venture of Reliance's retail arm offers free express grocery delivery from neighborhood mom-and-pop stores.
“Through our investment with Jio, we’re going to bring millions of small businesses and the customers they serve into the digital economy. This will make it easier for businesses to connect with customers and close sales,” a WhatsApp spokesperson was, though Reliance Retail declined to comment officially.
