Snapchat is adding a TikTok-style music feature
Snap Inc. is introducing a new feature that lets users add music to their posts within Snapchat, creating a way for young people to share songs with friends and a new promotional tool for the music industry.
Snapchat will roll out a test of the product in New Zealand and Australia starting Monday and plans to release it more widely later this year, according to a spokesperson. The company has secured the rights to music from several major music companies, including Warner Music Group, Universal Music Publishing Group and Merlin.
“We’re always looking for new ways to give Snapchatters creative tools to express themselves," the company said in a statement. “Music is a new dimension they can add to their Snaps that help capture feelings and moments they want to share with their real friends."
