Tamil Nadu Governor approved an ordinance prohibiting online ‘games of chance’ and gambling

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi gave his approval on Friday to an ordinance passed by the state cabinet last month that prohibits online gaming with stakes in the state.

This clears the way for the ‘Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Ordinance, 2022’ to take effect. According to media reports, the government will announce the date on which the law will go into effect soon. In its Gazzete notification dated October 1, the Tamil Nadu government stated that online games and gambling ruin families, lead to suicides, cause gaming addiction affecting public health, disturbing social order, and prejudices the maintenance of public order.
